The Christmas Kaka
A cheeky kākā (Nestor meridionalis) peers through pōhutukawa leaves, the bright red blooms marking the height of summer. The reference photograph for this work was taken at Christmas time in Ludlam Park, Lower Hutt — the first recorded sighting of a kākā in the valley bottom in over 100 years.
The resulting image featured on the front page of The Evening Post.
