The evening tui
As light fades, tūī are often still active — singing, feeding, and moving through flowering flax long after other birds have settled. This piece depicts a tūī among harakeke in the rain, with the bird and flax in crisp focus while the surrounding foliage recedes into impressionistic suggestion, capturing the mood of a wet New Zealand evening.
