Things our parents left behind

Things our parents left behind by Louise Thomas

This work is deeply personal, composed of everyday objects my husband and I inherited from our parents. Not valuable in a traditional sense, each item carries priceless memories: the Benghazi boiler my dad used for tea on remote worksites, rusting hurricane lamps from family camping trips, and the brass mortar and pestle that belonged to my husband's grandmother. After years in our garden, the mortar and pestle were cleaned and polished (good as new), testament to their enduring character and the stories they hold.

This work also featured in The Post newspaper.
